In this course, you will learn to understand Hebrew grammar in order to be able to read the narratives, laws, and poetry of the Old Testament in the language in which they were composed.

The course is set up in two sections, Basic and Advanced, the first focusing on Hebrew grammar and the second on advanced nuances and translation of poetry, figures of speech, literary structures, and textual criticism. As a student, you will be expected to work through the 29 grammar lessons consecutively, working from English to Hebrew, over a period of about nine months. The exercises will begin with shorter passages in Hebrew, but by Lesson 11, you will begin to translate larger paragraphs and eventually stories from the Hebrew Bible. 

The advanced section of an additional eight lessons is shorter and will require an additional three months.

  • You will need to commit 12 hours a week to study

  • This course is registered with the UofN Online Extensions Studies (OES) program, with credit awarded upon the successful completion of the whole course.

  • This course is the equivalent of the UofN CHR/HMT 257 Old Testament Hebrew

The Old Testament Hebrew Course is administered through YWAM The King's Lodge but is taught by Dan Lewis. The cost for the course is :

  • A Category Nations: £450

  • B Category Nations: £300

  • C Category Nations: £250

 

about the teacher

Dan Lewis has been an occasional international lecturer for the University of the Nations for the past twenty-five years, especially teaching in the School of Biblical Studies. He is a graduate of William Tyndale College (B.R.E.) as well as the University of Detroit (M.A.) and the Hebrew program at St. John’s Provincial Seminary (Roman Catholic) in Plymouth, Michigan. He has served as an Assistant Professor of Christian Studies at William Tyndale College in Farmington, Michigan (USA) as well as a member of the adjunct faculty of Robt. H. Whitaker School of Theology (Episcopal) in Detroit, Michigan. He also is a member of the International Society of Biblical Literature. He has recently retired as the Senior Pastor at Troy Christian Chapel, an evangelical congregation in Troy, Michigan.
