ONLINE READING IN BIBLICAL STUDIES

The Readings in Biblical Studies (RBS) course is now available as an Online course with a full or part-time option. Both options are designed to expose you to a breadth of Biblical studies and provide a basic foundation in a wide area of theology.

During the course, you will read a large volume of reference literature from a pre-selected list determined by the course advisor. This will include mandatory reading, as well as books chosen by you from the different topics in line with your own areas of interest.

TOPICS COVERED INCLUDE

  • Old & New Testament Background Studies

  • Biblical & Church History

  • Biblical & Systematic Theology

  • Exegetical Theology (Canonics, Hermeneutics, & Biblical Archaeology)

  • Philosophy & Worldview

  • Scientific Theology

  • Practical Theology (Pastoral Care, Education, Homiletics, Evangelism, Missions, Spiritual Warfare, & Worship)

As mentioned above, there are two options for how to complete the Online Readings in Biblical Studies. Either a full-time option (taking three months to finish) or a part-time option (taking nine months).

Taking the course full-time would resemble the residential version of the school, except that you would not need to leave your current location to participate. If a YWAMer, this option would require an agreement with your Campus Leadership for you to lay aside your usual duties for the 12-week course.

Since this is a full-time course, you would be expected to read full-time for 6 days a week. A reading plan will be drawn up in consultation with your school leader, in order to achieve the required 7000 pages.

The course would also include weekly, online one-on-one sessions with the course leader. These sessions would give you a chance to process and ask questions relating to what you have been reading, as well as provide a safe place to explore, discuss, and critique ideas from the books or ideas the books inspire.

Taking the course part-time would mean extending the above over nine months instead of three. In this case, an agreement would have to be made to set aside 1-2 days, or 12-15 hours in your normal weekly schedule. This time would be spent reading and note-taking since the increased time commitment to taking notes would be even more important.

A reading plan would be worked out to cover the nine months, based on a three-term (twelve-week), schedule with agreed breaks between each term. Online one-on-one sessions will also be a part of this option, but more spread out approximately once every three weeks.

UOFN COURSE CREDIT

The Readings in Biblical Studies course is registered with the University of the Nations (UofN) Online Extensions Studies (OES) program, with credit awarded upon the successful completion of the whole course. You will be registered with UofN OES and a certificate sent to you upon course completion. If at some point you desire to use the Extension Studies course credit towards a UofN degree, then these credits would be evaluated as other transfer credits. The number of credits that count towards a degree will depend on the subject of the degree and if these credits are appropriate for the degree focus.

This course is the equivalent of the UofN CHR215 Readings in Biblical Studies.
